EEO Public File ReportOctober 1, 2007 This report is being filed to comply with Federal Communications Commission Rules providing the following information for the period of September 22, 2006 to September 21, 2007 for Stations KFMZ (AM) and KZBK (FM), Brookfield, Missouri. According to Federal Communications Commission EEO rules, this station employment unit is not subject to formal outreach and recruitment requirements as fewer than five full-time persons were employed during the period. Supplemental Outreach Initiatives and ActivitiesA: Best Broadcasting, Inc. participated in a scholarship program in conjunction with the International Broadcasters Idea Bank and SESAC which awarded a $7500.00 scholarship award to a college student attending a U.S. College or University who is seeking a degree in Broadcast-Related programs. Some of the programs included degrees in Mass Media, Communication, Journalism, Advertising or Music. B. Best Broadcasting, Inc. also participates in the Missouri Broadcasters Association Foundation Internship Program. Selected applicants receive $250.00 for each credit hour, up to a maximum of $1000.00. We assist the MBA Foundation by promoting and distributing brochures and applications. This is a year-around program, however, final recipients are selected three times only, each year. Click here for more information. C. Best Broadcasting, Inc. participates in the Missouri Broadcasters Association Scholarship Program. Deserving students receive financial aid to assist them in attaining the training and expertise required to become valuable employees in Missouri's broadcasting industry. The annual deadline for applications is March 31st of each year. Click here for more information. D. Best Broadcasting, Inc. participates in an ongoing basis with a mentoring program involving area Boy Scouts. The purpose of this mentoring program is to assist the Scouts in earning their Communications Merit Badge while educating them on the various job opportunities available in the broadcast industry. During this reporting period, 5 area scouts have participated in this program. One earned his Communications Merit Badge in April, 07. Also, during this reporting period, Best Broadcasting, Inc. hosted a group of Cub Scouts, members of Cub Scout Pack 41 of Brookfield. They toured our station facilities and participated in a question and answer session about careers in Broadcasting, training requirements, and we offered some guidance on school subjects that could benefit them the most if they have an interest in radio. E: Best Broadcasting, Inc. has developed an on-going informal internship type relationship with Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, MO regarding a part-time employee of Best Broadcasting, Inc., a Broadcasting Major at Northwest Missouri State University. During the summer months this individual continued his training in news, sports, editing, production and several other Programming functions. In addition, in August, 2007 an individual who is transferring to UMKC this fall and changing his major to Communications worked a few hours per week over a three-four week period to give him a first-hand idea of what goes into the day-to-day operation of a radio station. This intern learned to use our digital editing equipment, voiced some commercials and news items and worked on editing information for our daily events calendar, among other things. F: Best Broadcasting, Inc. has an ongoing program which allows area school students who are interested in the broadcast industry to "shadow" station personnel. Each year we host several students from various schools throughout the listening area and give them a real life perspective of day-to-day operations in a radio station. G. Best Broadcasting, Inc. participated in a Career Fair on October 25, 2006 at Truman State University in Kirksville. During the course of the event, we visited with several students regarding various broadcasting careers. Representing Best Broadcasting, Inc. was Jeff Elliott, Group Operations Manager. In addition, on August 30, 2007 Jeff Elliott represented Best Broadcasting, Inc. during a conference call with the General Manager and Sports Director of a campus radio station in the area. Discussion centered on Sports Broadcasting in the "real world", including a discussion of High School play-by-play issues, how to make school contacts, getting telephone access and compensation for sports announcers. This was part of the research for a presentation to the campus station's staff as they prepared for the Fall Semester. H: Best Broadcasting, Inc. served as a presenter and media mentor on October 19, 2006 for a Media Advocacy Program with approximately 35 High School students from four area school districts. Part of the presentation included a discussion of career opportunities in the field of Radio Broadcasting, along with a question and answer session where discussion centered on education requirements, job descriptions and more. Representing Best Broadcasting, Inc. was Jeff Elliott, Group Operations Manager I: Best Broadcasting, Inc. participated in a Career Fair on March 14, 2007 at Marceline R-5 School. During the course of the event, we visited with seven groups of students regarding various broadcasting careers. Representing Best Broadcasting, Inc. was Jeff Elliott, Group Operations Manager. J: Continued to air weekly announcements encouraging those who are interested in a broadcast related career to contact us. K: Continued to air weekly announcements encouraging the help of local organizations in referring qualified applicants to our stations. These announcements inform organizations that wish to receive our job vacancy information to contact us.
